WBO logo    West Bay Opera Chorus Auditions:   Carmen

There will be a second audition session for men only for West Bay Opera's fall production, Carmen, on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 7:30 PM at the Holt Building, 221 Lambert in Palo Alto Applicants are encouraged to consider participating in the remaining productions of the season as well: Orfeo ed Euridice opening February 22nd, 2009, and Madama Butterfly opening May 22nd. All singers wishing to audition should contact the Chorus Manager. Thank you.

Audition material: Please learn your part in the beginning of the chorus "A deux cuartos," the opening number in Act IV of Carmen, available in this pdf file. You will be asked to sing through the first bar on p. 343 of the file, but no further. Basses should sing both bass 1 and bass 2 entrances; tenors should sing both tenor 1 and tenor 2 entrances. The excerpt does not need to be memorized.

What to bring to the auditions:

Performance dates: October 17, 19, 25 and 26, 2008

Rehearsal schedule: The first music rehearsal is Wednesday, August 13. There will be two or three music rehearsals a week up until staging starts in mid-September (one Wednesday evening, one over the weekend and a third if needed on Tuesday evening). Starting about 1-1/2 weeks before opening the schedule is very dense. The latest and most complete information is posted on the schedule page. Please contact the Chorus Manager with question.
